So happy to celebrate with our students! By 1am, @rosyumanzord was still in her dress sitting amidst the remnants of her wedding, surrounded by trash & stacked chairs & stray dogs with a glazed smile on her face.
“I still want to be Cinderella,” she said, “I don’t want it to be over.” And I think that may be my favorite memory.
The preparation was a flood of chaotic joy as we all scrambled to get ready under the palm thatch roof. The women were doing hair & makeup and caring for the babies while the men stood there looking lost without their women, effectively preventing us from changing into our bridesmaid dresses until Rosa shouted for them to leave.
Finally, it was time. We made our way past the barbed wire fence onto the beach. A throng of Nicaraguans parted as we made our way, smiles across every face & phones held high to capture it all. I carried Rosa’s train of a million sequins & was suddenly joined by a smiling little girl who wanted to “help.” Rosa was a queen.
We waited for the wedding march but instead the DJ saw fit to blast some reggaeton song, not just then, but sporadically throughout the ceremony. We walked out anyway into the soft sand toward the altar made of driftwood & seashells where Josh was waiting for Rosa.
The air was gold & pink with the setting sun, and beyond the palm trees and rippling water lay Volcano Coseguina & mountains of El Salvador, Rosa’s other home & heart.
The ceremony began in English & Spanish. Over 500 people circled around us, children filling the aisle and between us bridesmaids & sat enthralled at the couple’s feet. A stray dog wove through the crowd. The ocean to roared.
Rosa was tears & smiles the entire time, we all were, & the crowd cheered when they were pronounced man & wife. Then we danced & danced & danced.
The moon was began to disappear like a bite out of the silver cookie and eventually eclipsed into red.

I (@ladykategazaway ) gave my maid of honor speech in Spanish & wished Josh and Rosa a happy, long journey in their new life together.
We were happy, sweaty, chaos, joy, & celebration, which is all a wedding should be. Perfect. 💗

Hola and hello! Kate here with Picture Change. Rosa, who normally runs our account, has been very busy planning her wedding. I am so excited to be back in Padre Ramos, Nicaragua where Picture Change began in 2011 to celebrate Rosa and Josh this Sunday. I’m also thrilled to see former students from past projects and share what they’re up to now. It’s going to be a week full of unions and reunions in this beautiful place. Stay tuned :-)

Six years ago I stared taking graduation pictures in my community, then a few families trusted me as a Photographer now most of the family gets their pictures with me. It has been an honor to me to be able to work for my community. It makes me happy that I took these pictures when these kids were graduating from Kindergarten and this years the same kids graduated from 6th grade. .
